Supreme x Nike SB Dunks: The Skate Shoe That Became a Fashion Statement

Supreme x Nike SB Dunks are a series of collaborative sneakers that have become a fashion statement for many sneakerheads, streetwear enthusiasts, and skaters alike. The shoes are based on the Nike Dunk, a basketball shoe that was introduced in 1985 and later adopted by the skateboarding community for its durability, comfort, and style. Supreme, a New York-based skate brand that is known for its limited-edition releases and cult following, was the first partner of Nike’s newly established skateboarding division, Nike SB, in 2002. Since then, Supreme and Nike SB have released several versions of the Dunk, each with its own unique design and cultural significance.

The first Supreme x Nike SB Dunks were released in 2002, featuring two colorways of the Dunk Low model with elephant print overlays inspired by the Air Jordan 3. The shoes were the first non-Jordan sneakers to use the iconic pattern, and they also had Supreme’s logo on the tongue and insole. The shoes were highly sought-after by collectors and resellers, as they marked the beginning of a new era for both Nike SB and Supreme.

The second Supreme x Nike SB Dunks were released in 2003, featuring three colorways of the Dunk High model with crocodile-embossed leather panels and gold star patterns on the sides. The shoes also had gold lace locks with Supreme’s name on them, adding a touch of luxury to the skate shoes. The shoes were influenced by high-end fashion brands and their use of exotic materials and logos.

The third Supreme x Nike SB Dunks were released in 2012, celebrating the 10th anniversary of their first collaboration. The shoes were a reinterpretation of the 2002 Dunk Low models, but with red leather underlays instead of white or black. The shoes also had “World Famous” printed on the heel tabs, highlighting Supreme’s global influence and recognition.

The fourth Supreme x Nike SB Dunks were released in 2019, featuring two colorways of the Dunk Low model with metallic leather overlays and jewel Swooshes. The shoes also had Supreme’s logo on the lace tips and heel tabs, as well as a number patch on the lateral side of each shoe. The shoes were inspired by baseball jackets and their varsity-style details.

The fifth Supreme x Nike SB Dunks were released in 2021, featuring four colorways of the Dunk Low model with faux crocodile skin overlays and gold stars on the sides. The shoes also had Supreme’s logo on the tongue and insole, as well as a number patch on the lateral side of each shoe. The shoes were a homage to the 2003 Dunk High models, but with a lower cut and updated materials.

Supreme x Nike SB Dunks have become more than just skate shoes; they have become a symbol of street culture and fashion. They represent the fusion of sports, art, music, and style that both Supreme and Nike SB embody. They are also a reflection of the history and evolution of both brands and their impact on the sneaker industry.
